He frequently takes his inspiration from the medieval and Renaissance periods, making him the perfectmcomposer to tie into ORA’s projects of contemporary works reflecting on music from the past.
The work was commissioned in 1995 for Chanticleer as the second of "Two Medieval Lyrics" (the first is a setting of "There Is No Rose of Such Virtue"). Inspired by the rhythmic vitality of the original 14th-century carol, Sametz creates a wild rhythmic ride for the singers in this contemporary setting.
