Ola Gjeilo was born in Norway in 1978 and moved to the United States in 2001 to begin his composition studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he currently resides and works as a full-time composer.
Ola Gjeilo's arrangement of In the bleak mid-winter gives Gustav Holst’s well-known tune an American a cappella feel; and perhaps he nods wryly at the style of the religious minimalists as the chorus repeats the words at the end of the lines.
