Suzi Digby is back, and most happily for us, has generously agreed once again to celebrate Advent with us by sharing her new recording, The Mystery of Christmas.
And as a special treat just for our Millennium fans, she's allowing us to email you a free Advent song every day from Dec 6th through Dec 24th.
DAY SIX: We know a lot about the evolution of the Christmas carol form, and the contributions from England. We know very specifically about The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors, part of the Coventry Mystery Plays dating back to the 1300s. We know the text of this carol, interpolated into the play by 1534, was eventually suppressed along with the other plays of its kind in subsequent religious conflicts, and only reintroduced after the visionary antiquarian Thomas Sharp published his work “A Dissertation on the Pageants or Dramatic Mysteries Anciently Performed at Coventry" in the early 19th century. But about the perfection and beauty of this work, there can be no explanation.
Also remember that Suzi would like to offer you a copy of her new recording as a free gift if you:
- Join Millennium of Music as a Bronze or higher member with a new membership.
- Upgrade your current membership to Silver or Gold.
- Or give a gift membership for a friend or loved one.
So, apparently, Suzi Digby is Santa Claus! At least for us!
