Dear All:
Well, after long last, success to report: It took the stellar forces of the Public Broadcasting Archives some weeks to find the next set of old audio tapes—76 boxes were discovered—and then the process of transporting first to rural Virginia to acquire the proper reel-to-reel machine that was realigned to the original playback for these particular tapes.
Then our intrepid technical director Christopher had to drive the boxes and new/old machine back down to the studios in Atlanta, get a temperature-controlled storage unit, the proper drying ovens, and begin the arduous and painstaking process of baking and transferring the tapes one-by-one to usable audio.
But here we are; the first five are:
- Best Early Music Albums of 1987, with Fr Jerome Weber (1988)
- A Thanksgiving Hymnal (1991)
- Music of Advent (1991)
- Christmas — New Releases (1991)
- An English Medieval Christmas (1991)
All have already been the recipient of a generous Preservation Grant by a friend of the program, in honor of Richard Bayer.
Update: Our work continues! We have added many more rescued shows since we first made this announcement:
- Chants for Easter with Fr. Jerome Weber (1985)
- Music for the New Year – 1987 (1987)
- Lassus Part X (1987)
- Pentecost Part 3 (1987)
- Evolution of the Baroque Part 1 (1987)
- Evolution of the Baroque Part 2 (1987)
- Evolution of the Baroque Part 3 (1987)

And we are putting two of these shows right here on the front page below for all to enjoy:
Yes, there are hundreds more to go, but while the progress is slow (and very costly), I hope you believe that this is all worthy, fulfilling, and enriching.

For all of us, the greatest gift is your kind sharing with us your time and affection for this endeavor. And the very best to you and yours for the holidays and 2024 to come.
