Liturgia Defunctorum– Requiem from Saint Saviour’s Cathedral, Bruges

For over 30 years the Scola Gregoriana of the St. Saviour's Cathedral of Bruges has made music from the ancient church as alive as the medieval streets of that most beautiful of cities. This week, as we enter the meditative darkness of the Advent season, we hear the ancient Requiem service.

Service from a Dalmatian Cathedral

One of the themes of the just passed 2002 Holland Festival of Early Music at Utrecht was music from medieval and early Renaissance Croatia and Dalmatia--we will hear a service from this land where Byzantium, Rome and the ancient Glagolithic chant merged together.

Marguerite of Austria’s Songbook

Pierre de la Rue achieved fame matched only by Josquin des Prez, moving in the Lowlands from Burgundy to the southern part of modern Holland, serving the Hapsburgs and spending his last years in Kortrijk in Flanders--this week a recent recording dedicated to the most important 16th century woman in the Lowlands, Marguerite of Austria.
